Frames Based Menu Testing

Poster: Anonymous
Dated: Monday February 11 2002 - 20:16:12 GMT

<HTML>Hi,

I've just posted a demo of the Frames based menu to <a href=http://www.milonic.co.uk/menu/frames>http://www.milonic.co.uk/menu/frames</a>

I've spent too long on it already and it's still quite buggy but I'm thinking that if people want to use Frames and the menu then this way (albeit buggy) is the only way we can do it.

Personally I dislike Frames (with a passion) but they do have there uses and they have been known to solve a few problems, but again the issue of the lack of support from people like Microsoft is giving me a headache so can you guys take a look and let me have some feedback

Cheers peeps
Andy.</HTML>

Will it be posible to use it with an iframe also ?

Cheers

<HTML>I know you have this fixed in another file of the mmenu.js

but if you set the menuwidth the Opera bug with the borders/seperators
not showing is back in this frame-version.

<HTML>I'm testing the frames thing in IE 5.5. I'm getting a javascript error but I'm not sure whether its down to the browser or something else.

pf=parent[lt];
pf.mn=pf.gmobj("menu" pf.getMenuByName(v1));

The second of these two lines claims that pf is not an object. Does this sound like a browser version thing or can you tell from that if I have just made an error somewhere.

Otherwise, its an awesome menu system and if we can get this frames version working then I'm sure we'll be looking to use your system far more in the future.</HTML>

<HTML>Opera 6.01/Win98SE/Graphics on.

Moving the cursor from a top-level menu item (language) which has a sub-menu to an item without sub-menu (Home) leaves the language sub-menu visible, the Language item highlighted as well as the Home item.

This doesn't seem to affect sub-menus. It may also be seen in IE6.0

Sweeping cursor from last item to Home -and holding it there- highlights all items.

Sweeping vertical menu up and then sweeping left on horizontal menu will highlight all items (might miss some if you're sweep is inconsistent) without showing any sub-menus.

Opera 6.01/Win98SE/Graphics on.

Cheers!</HTML>

<HTML>I'm only 1/100th of the way to understanding your code but there seems to be some confusion between the Mtimers across both frames.

The onMouseOut timer on the mainmenu is being run when it shouldn't be causing the main item in the side frame to keep its highlight when the mouse is hovering over one of its sub-items. In fact, it loses its highlight when the mouse moves between the text of the item and the little triangle which I find odd as I thought it was part of the same div.

Hope that makes sense.</HTML>

<HTML>I use iframes on my sites , but it is only good for ie6 since iframes and forms tend to be overlaid over the menu on other browser - I heard there is a work around by declaring the id of the iframe somewhere in the menu's .js files and the it will show over the iframe - but I have yet to get an example of where to place this code.

If you like I can show you some of the sites that uses an Iframe with the mene.</HTML>

I'm testing the frames thing in IE 5.00. I'm getting a javascript error but I'm not sure whether its down to the browser or something else.

pf=parent[lt];
pf.mn=pf.gmobj("menu" pf.getMenuByName(v1));

The second of these two lines claims that object doesn't support this property. Does this sound like a browser version thing or can you tell from that if I have just made an error somewhere.

Otherwise, its an awesome menu system and if we can get this frames version working then I'm sure we'll be looking to use your system far more in the future.</HTML>

<HTML>Actually Andy.... The only reason I would even want to use a frame on my website is to make the menu bar smooth...... it is so jumpy when you scroll in IE6 anyway.... is there any way to statically or what ever place it at the position you want it (top) and have it stay there no matter what?????..... I am a self taught programmer.. and actually got the darned thing to work in frames on IE6 Example <A HREF="http://practicesite.netfirms.com/FramesStyle/main.html"><B> is located here</B></A> if ya wanna see it. I also included the files I actually used to make it.. just to make it easier.. they are located on the site. Good job Andy.... and I am sure you got a lot of hate mail cause "it don't work"... but what do ppl want for FREE!!! Anyway......<BR> <B>I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANX</B> for the script....... It is <B>GREAT!</B></HTML>

<HTML>Hi!
First: B I G compliment to Andy for Frame_Script (Version I use is 3.3.19). It solves my problems and looks very good - outer:
IE5 6 = O.K.
NS 4 (.77) = O.K.
Opera 5 6 => It seems to work, the submenu appears in the mainframe, but by a klick you are still on the same site and all text (including the text of the submenu) is marked.
Has anybody an equal problem? Can be tested on http://www.sv-anker06.de .

<HTML>Doesn't work properly on the MAC on IE or NS.

IE's offset is only slight, on NS6.01 the offset is exactly the height between the top of the frame and the top of the inital navigation menu layer :(

It's damn fantastic otherwise!</HTML>
