Problem on Mac OS 9.2 and IE 4.5

Poster: kierenj
Dated: Friday February 28 2003 - 23:44:36 GMT

I have the menu working great on most systems but I am having trouble with one (Mac 9.2 IE 4.5). The problem is that the first level of the menu looks almost right (it is missing menu dividers), but the submenus are squished vertically, so that you can only see the top half of the writing in each line. The problem may be the padding, because I tried adjusting it and although the change can be seen on other browsers and OS, it doesn't change this particular system.

Any help appreciated.

A URL so we can see your code is always helpful.

Unfortunately I can't post a url (it is a password protected site), but here is the content from the menu_array.js file. Hopefully that will help. Currently I am just putting the menu over an image to show decision makers how this could work, so there shouldn't be any problems with that (I am assuming!).

Thanks!

Also, here is the page that the menu is on (right now it is just over an image).

Thanks!

Boy - the things we'll do... :D

First time I've had Classic up in more months than I can remember. Put what you posted together as a page and gave it a try under 9.2. Unfortunately the best I can do on IE is 5.1.4. There everything looks fine.

4.5 is pretty far back. Is that something you really have to worry about? I should talk - I'm stuck supporting NS4.79 under Win which is just about as far removed!

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Ah well.. thanks for your help on this. At least I know it isn't some mistake I made.

Thanks!

Two thoughts:

(1) Do you have a pseudo class defined for a:link? I've known the menus to take on properties of this class.

(2) Suggested kludge: You could try placing a 1px transparent gif in front of or after the text in the submenu's "Description Field." In the <img> tag, tweak the height= attribute to see if that'll force the height. Of course, this would have to look good in every other browser too.

At the moment I am not using stylesheets as this is at the design phase and the menu is over an image of the design, but that is great to know that it may cause problems with stylesheets

great idea! I will give that a go.
