No problems at all. Just downloaded a few minutes ago.

Go to http://www.milonic.com/menuvinfo.php, log-in, and then use the download link.

Really don't know what to tell you, folks. I just went there again and downloaded with no trouble at all. :?

So four of us can't get it and there's nothing you can do? Can you try contacting someone you know that is somewhere else and see if they can get it? Or are you satisfied with the ol' "It works on my machine" explanation? :?

Maybe post is somewhere else??

I agree, one person having problems is easily played off to their specific machine. 4 people though ... maybe since you are able to get it you could post it for us as well....

Woah - lighten up there...

For one thing, I'm in Phoenix (as you can see), and the server is in England.

For another, it's after 2300 over there, and if Andy's still up he'll see the messages.

And yet another, I already sent him a note about it.

works for me... it was the "don't really know what to tell ya, folks" comment that got me going. SOrry about that! :P

The freebies are down till we can get the protection in place.

Should be later today.

Paying folks still get the menu though

Cheers

I really hate to be one of the 'free' loaders that complains, but I will gladly pay for the menu when I have occasion to use it for other sites, but for now, I am with an educational institution and I haven't convinced them yet to budget for the menu. :)

My only problem is that I cannot get the menu version WITHOUT the Milonic link as the second item.

I have had it in the past, as recently as RC15, but when I attempt to get RC20, logged in of course, the downloads page tells me I will get the version of the menu WITHOUT the link, but I get it anyway.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks a bunch for the help, and for the awesome menu.

UPDATE: This only occurs in IE 6.0...when I use Firebird, the milonic link is not there. Is that weird, or is that expected behavior?

I guess I'm one of the moochers who thought service was the same if you had a license, whether it was a free one or a paid one.

I can download it fine now. Haven't tried it out yet though.

Service so far has been outstanding. Thank you for the great menu and providing a way for education to use it without paying for it. In K12, there's little to no chance of having them pay for it!

First, this is not directed at anyone in particular - honest :)

OK - there are moochers (using your word, but not pointing fingers, DenverGirl!), and then there are moochers. So, Andy is trying to run a business (business = try to make money, I think). Now, Andy is 100% dedicated to the Milonic DHTML menu system, his customers, and making this the best menu anywhere. Plus, he wants everybody possible to have and use his system (give away = fold business). Oops - giant conflict here (give away neq make money).

He has been bending over backwards to try and be fair to everybody, and it's costing him dearly. Andy, Dave, and I have had some, shall we say, interesting e-mail discussions recently, and he's really torn up about how to handle this situation - be fair to everybody and still have a viable business.

Andy understands and appreciates the problems in getting funds in non-profit and educational organizations (heck, I work for an edu!). He also sees the true moochers, from individuals to giant corporations, bilking him out of a lot of money. Yes, the menu is inexpensive, but you wouldn't believe how many folks have stolen it! That adds up. But his overly-large be-fair-to-everybody heart comes back into it, and he's back in the quandry again.

So, what's the point? Sometimes you see changes happening on the system and you don't know why. Free menus go away, then they come back. Then there's the download changes from last night that caused the 404s for some folks (Dave and I knew nothing about that, BTW).

What's a body to do? Play fair, that's what! This system is worth a lot more than the price Andy charges, and he certainly deserves. Some of you who qualify for a free license have gone ahead and purchased one anyway, because you see the quality of the product and the work that has gone into it. For that we certainly thank you! Personally, I would like to see more of that. It's not like it will break the bank. Buy it out of your own pocket if need be - it'll make you feel good.

But keep in mind - there's always the chance that the free menus will go away if folks don't start playing fair. Just a thought.

As always, ramblings such as this are my personal opinions, and not that of Milonic. Dave and I do not work for Milonic - we do this for free because of Andy's ideals...

Addendum:
I had not seen this before I wrote my message, but take a look at Andy's post at http://www.milonic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3047. Gives you an idea of just where we're at...

Point well taken. I in no way meant to not "play fair." I do greatly appreciate the free menu, and if at some point I can pay for it, I will. And it would have to come out of my own pocket, and given that I work for K12, you can imagine that my pockets are not heavy either.

Thank you again for the menu and the support. If at some point Andy has to no longer provide the menu for free to anyone, I'm sure everyone will understand why.

I know, and remember, it really was not directed at you.

I'm in higher ed, so trust me, I know about light pockets!

We do our best to provide the same level of support for everybody, regardless. It does get a bit tough sometimes (did you see the link to Andy's comment?), but we still try.

If the freebies do go away, it won't be the fault of anybody at Milonic.

Thanks for your support.
