Liscencing Question

Hey everyone.

So, after downloading the version 5, I applied for a licence. I've had the menu before but I got these licences too just for good measure, although I've followed all the stipulations before.

When I downloaded Version 5, the page said...

"Please note: Your download will automatically contain a link to Milonic as the second item in each main menu, this is part of the free license agreement. This will, unfortunately, affect some sample menus.
You can request that this link be removed from future downloads if you let us know and can prove your non-profit status.
This link is also removed if you have a valid Professional or higher license agreement. "

So, when I got the licence and all, I thought there would be some sort of link to download the menu without the link to Milonic as the second item (its kind of in the way...). So, I've scoured the rest of the website, and I seem to get the impression that unless I specifically pay for it, the milonic link will be always be there. The only hope that I have that I can remove the milonic link on the menu is through what is says on the download page... can someone shed some light on this, in preferably, small words? ;)

Thanks a lot! And, I apologize profusely if the answers to this was right in front of my nose and I'm just not smart enough to see it!

Avenir

You applied for a free license and got it. Part of the agreement to get a free license is to have a link back to Milonic somewhere on the page. ALOT of people were just downloading the menu and not giving any credit or links back to Milonic so it was decided that forcing a link was the best way to go. Apologize for the inconvenience, but it was the ignorance of others who ruined it for everyone.

Now if you want to remove the link, you have to purchase a license. You must pay for a professional license (a mere ~$34US) and you get the menu all to yourself with no links back to Milonic (although we appreciate it). So as the menu download page said ....

These two ways are the only way to get the link removed.

Sorry, Dave, but I have to take it a step further. First, this does NOT refer to anybody in particular at all, in this thread or any other on the Forum, and it is my personal opinion, not that of Milonic.

That said, I have to call it greed. Too many folks want everything for nothing. This system is one of those all too rare items that is both great and inexpensive at the same time. The support and dedication put in by Andy simply can't be topped anywhere. Yet there are those who must take advantage, and, as you said, ruin it for everyone else.

And no, I'm not saying that if you qualify for a free license you shouldn't have one. A link is not too much to ask for what you are getting.

On the other end of the scale we have the group who qualifies for a free license, yet they have been buying the product anyway - not to get rid of the link, because that was just put in place a few days ago, but because they believe in Andy and his product. To them, we certainly say Thank You!

Alrighty, sounds like that, although I have a free licence, to remove the forced link in the menu bar requires payment. That's all I need to know.

Plus, for the record, although I don't think either of you were suggesting anything, I have, ever since I first downloaded the Milonic menu two years ago, complied with all the stipulations that came with downloading and using the menu. (xcountryab.net and canadianbirkie.com)

So, I don't want you guys to think that I wanted to get rid of the Milonic link entirely. Even if I DO pay and have that link removed, I would certainly put a link to Milonic's page anyway.

Anyhow, thanks for your help!
Ave.

Ave, you are the class of person I was talking about at the end of my ranting. You qualify for a free menu, yet you will still put a link up AND are considering paying on top of that! It bears repeating - Thank You :!:

I know Andy has a LOT on his plate and not being real code literate I'm not sure if this is possible.... but for example, I use a horizontal main menu and when I downloaded the free one, there was no way to move the link..not remove it but move it someplace else in the main menu. I don't know if it's possible but perhaps there's a way to fix the menu so that the person can either use the link provided exactly as is or to move it to another place in the main menu, but it always having to be in the main menu for the menu to function? Just a thought.

My guess would be if you have enough access to move it then you could also remove it, with or without placing another link. Right now I think this is the best solution.

You're probably right. I just thought that there might be a way to code so that you had to have a http://www.milonic.com link in the main menu someplace for it to work...then again, what the heck do I know about coding

Part of the reason why it is where it is is because some people could get around the link, say if it were tacked on to the end of a menu. They could make the menu so wide/long that the link doesnt even show up on the page. Plus being the 2nd spot is a great place for advertisement and letting people know who made this great menu. ;)

Oh, I'm all for advertising the menu :D I even made my own pretty little table submenu with a spiel about it and all the great things it does...Never thought about making the menu wide enough so it wouldn't show. Darned people what the heck does it cost them to have a link for something they think good enough and that was FREE????

LINK REMOVED

Check this out...hopefully it works, not the whole menu, I didn't upload all the images, but the part with the Milonic Link. There's my need to 'design' even if it isn't real fancy.

Very Nifty, Ruth :!: Super job. You should get Andy to put that in as the free link...

Thanks John. I just have this thing about working with colors and such and I liked kind of giving an idea right in the little menu link of some of the things the menu did. For me the greatest thing is not just being able to lay it out but also being able to make it sort of artsy for the site. WHen I get it up it's got neat little icons for various links

Please keep letting us know when you make additions like that. It not only shows off the menu, but your capabilities as well.
