Using images and showing current state

I'm evaluating the menus right now and I'm trying to figure out how to do show state of a current page using images. So far I've created a menu using light blue images at the top level that have darker blue rollover images. I want one of the images be be dark blue when you're in that section. E.g. on the home page the menu item labeled "Home" would be dark blue (much like how the tabs on Amazon.com are a different color depending on which section you're currently in).

This is an extremely common navigation convention, but after searching through the site I can't seem to find any examples or advice on how to implement this. Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks in advance!
