Centre menu text

Hi All,
I am having a problem with alignment of menu text in drop down menus using internet explorer.
When using align="center" the text still appears in most menus left aligned with the occassional item being near center. The alignment works fine if I use the firefox browser.
Any suggestions on how to work around this?
