Add and remove menu buttons on the fly

We have the need to be able to change the menu elements displaying on our menu. We have two elements that are always present, and then x number of extra elements (between 5 and none depending on the page). Basically what i want to do is remove all 5 elements and then rebuild them - and then redraw the menu using javascript.

I read somewhere its possible to set menu elements to 0 to hide them. Is this the best way to do it. Hide all elements, change their properties then re-display them with different images and text etc?

Thanks for your help

Rich

This is pretty much over my head, but there is an Editing API module that might be what you want. Though again, It's out of my knowledge base. It's on the module page down toward the middle.

There are also a number of posts about adding and deleting items. This one ended with the development of the module. Maybe it will give you more information.
