Menu positioned in DIV, but behaving strangly.

Hello there,

I have been using the menu for quite a while and I am now updating my website from simple html table into CSS divs.

And I am having problems as the menu is behaving very strangly.

The current website is:
http://www.wunderkammern.net/
Here the menu is in the left table. And it floats up and down with the page.

The new website is still under development but here is a test page (script is documented and easy to understand):
http://www.wunderkammern.net/css/template.htm
Here the menu is positioned exactly where I want.

I tried to make it floating as in the old site, but it does not work as it moved automatically in the centre. So I made it fixed. It all seems OK, but when I reduce the web browser window size (both in explorer and firefox) the menu jumps towards the bottom and sometimes even towards the left.

I have tried with the "embedded_main_menu.js solution" as well, but in that case the manu does not show at all.

Your help is highly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance
Cheers
Giuse

Hi,

it is the overflow=scroll that seems to be forcing the menu to shift down the page in FF 3 and above. It doesn't do that in IE6, Safari 3 for pc, NN9, NN7.2, Opera 9

I will report it, but if you remove that the menu no longer follows down in FF3.

Hi Ruth,

Thanks for your swift reply.

Yes, it seems the overflow option is the cause. I will be interested to know if the issue will be solved in the future.
In the mean while I will keep the Main Menu without overflow. The other sub menus do not seem to be affected by this.

Any idea why the floating option does not work either?

When I activate that, the menu goes immediately in the centre of the page.
It'd be great to find a solution as it was a nice option I would have liked to have on.

Many thanks again for your support!
Giuseppe

Hi,

You'll have to give me a page with that option set up so I can test it and get back to you.

Hi Ruth,

Yep sorry. I had put it in the same place:
http://www.wunderkammern.net/css/template.htm

btw, I'm using FF3.0.1 and EX7.

Cheers

Hi Ruth,

Wondering whether you had a chance to understand why the floating option also does not work (i.e. the menu positions itself in the middle and not on top)?

Example at:
http://www.wunderkammern.net/css/template.htm

Many thanks
Giuseppe

Hi,

Sorry, I'm still working on it trying to narrow down where the problem might be.

Hi Ruth,

Hope all well.

Wondering whether you had managed to find the bug.

Many thanks in advance

Hi,

I've been out awhile, sorry. But, I have been working on it and I cannot find out what is causing it. It is something in the css, that much I know but I can't seem to narrow it. I removed all the header stuff from the css, which of course removed the header and its background, but when I did that the menu went up to the top of its div where it belong, but though I tried removing different things in the header to see what was causing it nothing change the middle position. I have to think it is something working in conjunction with something else in the css. I am still trying to remove combination things to see if I hit it, but it doesn't look really good :(

If you have a pro license or above you might try using the http://www.milonic.com/support/ system for more direct help.

I'll keep trying.
